New Beginnings

Our Story

Located at the end of Cape Cod, in the heart of vibrant Provincetown, The Post Office Cafe and Cabaret has been a landmark for great food and entertainment for nearly 50 years. A staple with both locals and tourists alike, this Commercial Street venue offers traditional American breakfast, an all day menu, two festive bars and nightly live entertainment.

The building at 303 Commercial Street shares a rich history with Provincetown. It was home to the original Lands End Marine Supply in 1940, and converted into the Wreck Club in 1960. In 1974, Phyllis Schlosberg, a theatre MFA and former educator, brought the Post Office to life. Phyllis would go on to launch many artists’ careers from the Cabaret’s stage, including Provincetown’s long-reigning drag sensation Varla Jean Merman, as well as camp queen Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.

Through the years, the Cabaret stage has also attracted performers from every corner of the entertainment industry, including Eartha Kitt, Lea DeLaria, Divine, Carol O`Shaughnessy, Jimmy James, Thirsty Burlington, Drag Race stars Trixie Mattel and Raja, Khris Francis, and many others.

Due to COVID, the PO was unable to open for the 2020 season. Jack Kelly, Paul Melanson and Kristiyan Aleksiev of Tin Pan Alley took ownership of the business and are so very excited to usher in a new era, while continuing to honor the Provincetown institution that Phyllis so lovingly cultivated.

Anyone who’s been in Provincetown through the years will have fond memories of Dixie, a longtime server at the Post Office with unforgettable charisma. In keeping with the tradition of honoring the beloved characters of our town’s past, the summer of 2021 marks the inauguration of Dixie’s Lounge, a new hang out in our second floor cabaret room. Enjoy our lunch menu and finely blended cocktails with friends while looking out at Provincetown’s pier.
